The Head of the
Centre talks to children about the environmental aspects of the Nature
Reserve.
Children draw with
natural materials in the Centre if the weather is not good enough
for them to work outdoors. These materials, leaves, twigs and stones are
used to make images in ways which are new to them.
Children
gather different materials to make their sculptures. This is done under
the supervision of the Centre's staff and teachers.
Materials found on
the site. These are things which would naturally have been pruned
or found on the ground. There is also a policy of sustaining the art materials
by planting the things needed.
Preparing an area
to put an art idea into practice.
Here
one of the children makes a preliminary drawing with natural materials,
basing ideas on the industrial aspects of the site.

Looking at light
in nature and getting ideas about how to use this in a theme which
links this with the electrical aspects of the Nature Reserve. There is
also a link to the need of light by plants to grow - photosynthesis.
Discussing the
development of the sculpture with the Centre Head and a visitor.
Children making a sculptural installation in one of the classrooms on
a rainy day. This is a very similar exercise to that outdoors, using natural
materials with the help of the artist and teaching staff.
Starting to
build and experiment with different materials.
